Overview
The South Ormond Neighborhood Center is a city-owned and operated recreation center and neighborhood park that is open to the public. At the South Ormond Neighborhood Center, our goal is to serve at-risk youth in the community by offering education through recreation, promote lifetime healthy activities and lifestyles in adults as well as children, teach life skills, and serve as a means of crime prevention in our community. The South Ormond Neighborhood Center runs several programs throughout the year including adult and youth basketball tournaments and leagues, after-school tutoring, sports clinics, summer camp, and a host of special events and parties.
Facility Rental
The South Ormond Neighborhood Center's splash pad, library, banquet hall and kitchen, meeting rooms, and picnic pavilion are also available for rental for meetings, parties, and other special events.
Tutoring Program
The South Ormond Neighborhood Center, in partnership with the Ormond Beach Police Athletic League (PAL), offers a tutoring program for neighborhood children. The program:
- Is for children in kindergarten through the sixth grade
- Takes place Monday through Friday, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., October 12 - March 4
The South Ormond Neighborhood staff, with the assistance of certified tutors, work with each child in developing good study habits.
Learning Center
The South Ormond Neighborhood Center's Learning Center is equipped with ten (10) computers, which are used for enhancing computer skills. The computers were obtained through a grant and the partnership of the Ormond Beach PAL and Ormond Beach's Leisure Services Department.
Fitness Room
The South Ormond Neighborhood Center's Fitness Room provides the opportunity for individuals to utilize free weights and various weight machine stations. Those who wish to use the fitness center must be 18 years or age or older.
Open Gym
The South Ormond Neighborhood Center's gym is open for free play as per the season schedule. The air-conditioned gym is equipped with six backboards and an additional small play area.
