Statement from Ormond Beach Mayor, Bill Partington

As a city, we have been practicing good social distancing efforts for at least the last week and I wanted to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for the response we are seeing from our residents. I have noticed folks reaching out to their neighbors offering help with groceries and supplies, restaurants adapting and providing to-go options/delivery services, and reminders for all that even though we are socially distanced and not gathering, we are staying connected to each other. Our community spirit is what makes Ormond Beach the amazing community that it is!

Circumstances related to COVID-19  are changing rapidly. My fellow commissioners and I are working with staff to closely monitor the latest information and staying in touch with our partners, East Volusia Mayors, Volusia League, and the Florida League of Cities  on a daily basis to keep up on best practices, share knowledge, and gather tips to provide the best service possible for our community.

I want to extend special thanks to our city staff, legal, and especially our fire and police departments who are performing valiantly during this unprecedented event. Your dedication to our residents shines through every day and we are all so grateful.

Please keep our local businesses in mind and continue to patronize those places in the safest way possible, whether take-out or drive-thru or ordering a gift card to use at a later date. I’m asking our residents to be patient as we all continue to implement guidelines that prioritize our health above all else. Our goal right now is to stop the spread of this virus and it will take all of us working together to do that.
