The Daytona Beach Concert Band will present its third annual Patriotic Concert on Sunday, May 26, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center located at 399 North US 1. This is a free family friendly community event open to the public.
The program is designed to recognize members of the armed services past and present and will include a medley that contains the representative song for each branch of the armed services.
The first half of the concert will include the recognition of 19 recipients of the Patriot of the Year Award selected by various local armed services support groups. The band will perform patriotic selections such as “God Bless the USA,” “America the Beautiful,” “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “God Bless America.” The second half of the program will include nostalgic American popular music such as “Selections from Fiddler on the Roof,” “In the Mood,” “Duke Ellington Hits” and “Music by Carole King.”
Vocals will be provided by Ms. Kira St. Pierre, a lyric soprano and music major at Stetson University. She is a graduate of DeLand High School where she performed with the DeLand High School Choir.
The concert will be conducted by Mr. Charles Long, a former high school band director and school administrator. Mr. Long served for 37 years in Volusia County Schools.
