order to complete the rehabilitation of Runway 8/26 at the Ormond Beach
Municipal Airport, it will be necessary to close both of the airport’s runways
to facilitate work on the area where the two runways intersect. The
runway intersection work was planned to commence on Monday, December 10, but
has been rescheduled to begin on January 2 and will continue for ten
(10) calendar days. This delay is due to an equipment breakdown suffered
by the paving contractor that will take a minimum of two (2) weeks to repair.
8/26 and Runway 17/35 will be closed from January 2 through January 11.
The airport will remain open for helicopter activity and the provision of air
traffic control services.
runway rehabilitation project will reconstruct Runway 8/26, which is 75 feet
wide and consists of 4,004 linear feet of asphaltic runway pavement, to meet
current Federal Aviation Administration criteria. The existing runway
pavement is beneath the condition considered acceptable by the Florida
Department of Transportation, and due to the criticality of this surface as the
airport’s primary runway, rehabilitation is a high priority.
