Due to the inclement weather expected on Monday, May 28, the
annual Memorial Remembrance Service at Rockefeller Gardens HAS BEEN
CANCELLED. Instead, an abbreviated service including a focal point of
Laying of the Wreath and Tolling of the Bells will be held at the opening of
the Patriot’s Day Concert on Sunday, May 27, 2:00 p.m., at the
Performing Arts Center.
The guest speaker will be Captain Hugh Patrick Everly, Commanding
Officer Embry-Riddle NROTC. Captain Everly is a 1991 graduate of the
United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. He
completed flight training in 1993 and is a 2012 graduate of the National War
College. After serving in many operations and positions around the world,
he assumed command of the ERAU NROTC Unit in July 2016.
The Daytona Beach Concert Band will perform a special patriotic
concert to honor our nation’s troops, veterans, and military families.
This is a free family friendly community event open to the public. The
concert is a joint collaboration between the Ormond Beach Memorial Day
Committee and Lohman Funeral Homes.
The Daytona Beach Concert Band is under the direction of Charles
Long with selected vocals by Gwen Watson, a U.S. Navy veteran. Commander
Jim Bower, American Legion Post 267, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
Recognition of local veterans and families of the fallen will highlight this
special ceremony.
The Performing Arts Center is located at 399 North U.S. 1 and has
a seating capacity of six hundred.
