An Open House for the Ormond Beach Community Gardens will be held
on Saturday, May 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Both Hammock Lane
Community Garden and Fleming Avenue Community Garden will be open for tours,
talks, question and answer sessions, demonstrations, and presentations.
Learn about gardening from master gardeners and enthusiasts!
At Fleming Avenue Community Garden, learn about native plants with
UF/IFAS Master Gardener Coordinator Joe Sewards, Master Gardener Leslie Nixon,
and the Florida Native Plant Society PawPaw Chapter. At Hammock Lane
Community Garden, learn about pollinators and growing your own produce with
Master Gardeners Russ Royce and Karen Diedo. Enjoy hands-on kids’
activities, compost presentations, and more at both gardens.
Admission is FREE and open to all ages. Hammock Lane
Community Garden is located at 601 Hammock Lane; Fleming Avenue Community
Garden is located at 601 Fleming Avenue. Free parking is available at
both Central Park entrances as well as at the Environmental Discovery Center
(EDC), located at 601 Division Avenue.
At 10:00 a.m., Volusia County Environmental Management will
present a “Be Floridian Now” program at the EDC. Mary Rockefeller will
discuss how to have a Florida friendly lawn and go fertilizer free. For
