Homeland Security

Local Homeland Security Measures

Since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the Ormond Beach Police Department and Fire Department, as well as all City offices, continue to review and upgrade the City's security and emergency procedures as needed. The Police Department is in contact with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).

The Police Department has created a list of priority patrols for officers on all shifts. Investigators have ongoing dialogue with state and federal officials regarding investigative information. The City has upgraded and continues to upgrade the level of security at City facilities.

Joint Effort Teams

The police and fire departments have formed an emergency preparedness team to continually review the City's safety. They are also forming a joint Critical Incident Team that would be cross-trained in a variety of emergency management situations, including terrorism and biohazards.

State Mandate

Additionally, the State has mandated that all police and firefighters receive weapons of mass destruction training, which includes training in biohazard threats.
