| We take your safety seriously. The City’s water and
wastewater utility are working together with local, state, and Federal
agencies to protect the health and safety of our citizens and the
environment.
Chemicals are an important part of our industry. For
nearly 100 years, chlorine has been used safely and effectively to promote
a clean and safe water supply. Our utilities use chlorine for various
treatment processes. It, along with other chemicals is stored at our water
and wastewater plants. Therefore, there is a remote possibility an
accidental leak may occur. We are pleased to announce that we have
developed a Risk Management Plan (RMP) that will provide an extra measure
of safety to the programs that we already have in place.
Our RMP was submitted to the United States Environmental
Protection Agency (USEPA) by June 21, 1999, as required. This was one of
the largest programs undertaken by the USEPA since the passing of the
Clean Air Act in 1990. It is one more way for utilities to make sure that
their operations are safe for the community, the environment, and their
employees. If you should wish to review our Risk Management Plan, it is
available at the Ormond Beach Public Library, 30 South Beach Street,
Ormond Beach.
We are committed to the health and safety of our public.
Our first layer of protection is our highly skilled, well-trained
safety-aware workforce. We routinely evaluate and update our equipment,
training, and procedures. We believe that preventing accidents is the most
effective way of managing risks.
We work very closely with our local law enforcement and
fire department, who work with other local emergency units and the Local
Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) to provide a rapid response to any
potential accident. Should you require further information, please call (386) 676-3240, Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.
