Voluntary conservation measures for water reuse customers
During dry conditions, it is important for water reuse customers to conserve water in order to maximize the availability of the reuse water system.
Sprinklers should be adjusted to water for the shortest period in each zone to maintain live lawn conditions. Irrigate only when your lawn shows signs of wilting.
Typically, one to two inches of water per week is adequate if no water is provided through rainfall. Two applications per week of three-fourths of an inch are recommended. Use of a rain gauge is also recommended.
Reuse customers who utilize reclaimed water for irrigation are not governed by the watering restrictions in place for all of Volusia County. However, when there is a lack of rainfall, there is usually increased demand on the system, which causes low pressure. This happens especially during the peak watering hours between 4 to 8 a.m.
Reuse customers are asked to operate their irrigation systems under this schedule:
- Homes
with odd addresses should water only on odd days of the month and homes
with even addresses should water only on even days of the month.
- Reducing the number of irrigation days to two per week.
- Irrigate other than at 4 to 8 a.m., such as the early evening hours; avoid the hottest part of the day when evaporation rates are highest.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
