2-Inch Water Main Replacement Projects

The City has identified as a priority, the need to replace several miles of substandard 2-inch potable water mains currently in service throughout the City.  Most of the 2-inch water mains were installed more than 30 years ago and are beyond their useful service life. A large portion of these 2-inch water mains are constructed of galvanized steel which is subject to corrosion and failure, as such, substandard water quality is an issue in many of the areas served by these mains.  Replacement of the 2-inch water mains was identified in the City's 2007 utility master plan update which indicated that approximately $11,250,000.00 of substandard 2-inch water mains should be replaced. In 2011, the City's 5-year Capital Improvement Program specifically identified $6.6 million to be spent on replacement of the 2-inch water mains over the next 5 years. The project was shown to occur in three phases with $2,650,000 to be spent in the first phase to occur from FY 2011-12 through FY 2012-13.
