The Environmental Advisory Board’s purpose is to provide constructive advice and counsel to the City Commission with a broad outlook toward environmental protection and conservation. The powers and duties of the Board include the following:

  • Study and advise the Commission regarding the conservation element of the Comprehensive Plan.

  • Provide advice concerning proposed amendments to environmental elements of the Comprehensive Plan.

  • Study and advise the Commission on public health problems resulting from environmental pollution.

  • Review existing and proposed City ordinances, which affect the environment and advise for the need for modifications.

  • Study and make recommendations relative to environmental elements of the Land Development Code.

The board’s action is advisory only and is not final or binding when the Board’s recommendations are considered by the City Commission.

There are seven members of the Environmental Advisory Board, five appointed by each member of the City Commissioners, and two appointed at large. The Board meets monthly as needed. Meetings are scheduled for the second Wednesday of the month in the City Hall Training Room. Meetings are open to the public. The Engineering Division and Planning Department provide staffing.
