Mayor Fred Costello was first elected to the City Commission in November, 1999 as the representative in Zone 3, winning re-election in 2001. He was then elected Mayor in a 2002 special election, after then-Mayor Carl Persis resigned to run for State Representative. Mayor Costello was then re-elected to a full two-year term as Mayor in 2003.

Mayor Costello was born and raised in Orlando, earned a bachelor’s degree from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, and his Doctorate in Dental Services (DDS) from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1974. He settled in Ormond Beach in 1977. He has practiced Cosmetic and Comprehensive Dentistry with his partner, Henry E. Kraski, DDS, in Ormond Beach for over 20 years.

Before joining the City Commission, he served on the city’s Planning Board and the Development Review Board for many years, including serving as Chairman of both boards. His community activities over the years includes serving as Presiding Elder and Mission President of his church, participating on multiple non-profit boards, and serving as a campaign unit chairman for the local United Way.

In his capacity as Mayor, he has served as Chairman of the Volusia Council of Governments (VCOG) and Chairman of the Volusia County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). His honors include the 2005 Marvin Samuels Leadership Award from The Chamber, Daytona-Halifax Area.

Mayor Costello and his wife, Linda, have been married for more than 30 years. Their main hobby is spending time with their three children and four grandchildren.
